Dunaway provided structural and civil engineering and surveying services for Pflugerville Independent School District’s Vernagene Mott Elementary School. The new 100,000-square-foot, single-story, steel-framed elementary school is designed in such a way that it will serve the district’s vision to accommodate pedestrian traffic from the future residential developments surrounding the school. The school includes classrooms that are organized in pods with their own collaboration spaces, a gymnasium, a cafetorium with a performance stage, and a library, in addition to administrative and support areas. The school also provides separate outdoor playgrounds that are planned according to the needs of different grade levels. The Dunaway team designed a structurally isolated two-way concrete slab foundation due to poor soil conditions to accommodate the playground area.
