Schiller Drive, an existing residential street in North Richland Hills with degrading concrete curbs and gutters as well as aging asphalt pavement, was identified as needing complete reconstruction under the 44th Year Tarrant County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Dunaway was selected for the reconstruction project which included the design of a concrete pavement roadway as well as the addition of 4-foot wide concrete sidewalks.
The existing neighborhood included mature trees, landscaping improvements, and mailboxes within the parkway, which provided a design challenge. Because there were no storm drain inlets along the street, the team was required to maintain a minimum street grade to capture and convey all stormwater runoff to the intersecting street and valley gutter.
Our team saved time and money by keeping the proposed sidewalk within the existing right of way and minimized impacts to the private properties. Dunaway quickly completed the design, bidding, and construction administration phases with Tarrant County.
